Sun Trip France 2020

Following the postponement of the Lyon-Canton Sun Trip to 2021, we are creating of a special event around France. 2020 is far too important a year for the Sun Trip to remain quiet.

There are many objectives for this event: to stay on course, to be an agent of change, to reconnect with people and to highlight “a solar & united” country. Let’s be ambitious!

This event will be departing from Lyon and arriving in Albertville (Savoie) this Summer 2020 (July 14 to August 9), in full compliance with the sanitary rules which will then be in force.

Itinerary

Our course is a 3,000 km loop divided into 7 legs, some of which will be very long (up to 800 km) and some designed so that the participants may ride together as a group (notably in Brittany, in Tourmalet and in the Alps). Participants will come together at stopovers. but there will also be a few optional checkpoints.

A facultative prologue starting in Strasbourg will depart approximately 6 days before the official departure in Lyon.

Here’s a route overview as of May 15, 2020 (still subject to modifications):

Schedule

Lyon: departure on July 14 from the Ethic Etapes accommodation with the support of the Greater Lyon Area and the Lyon City authorities.
Blois: July 16 -17  at the Ethic Etapes accommodation.
Saint Malo: July 19-20  at the Ethic Etapes accommodation.
Plouguerneau: July 21-23 at the camping de la Grève Blanche, with the support of the Plouguerneau town.
Pau:  July 27 -29 juillet, with the support from the Pau city and Pau Pyrénées Tourisme
Anduze: August 2-4 at the Ethic Etapes accommodation.
Val Cenis: August 5-6 , at the Ethic Etapes accommodation.
Refuge du Plan du Lac: August 7, in collaboration with de Vanoise National Park.
Albertville: August 9, camping des Aboubes, with the support of Albertville city.

The route will also include optional checkpoints, such as Explore in Concarneau, the Ethic Etapes de Montignac, or the  Domaine Pré La Lande de Pineulh. This list is likely to grow; we’re on the lookout for good ideas.

Participation

This project is open to about thirty participants, mainly former Suntrippers and people that were registered for an event that was scheduled in 2020. A dozen places are also available for “newbies” that are either already equipped with a solar bike or may rent one for the occasion.

The general rate is €600. This registration fee includes: half-board accomodation at all stopovers (13 nights), an official jersey, and the services of a small logistics and image team. A reduced rate will be offered to participants registered for the Lyon-Canton 2020, and to a lesser extent to former participants & members of the Sun Trip Association.

It will also be possible to take part in one, two or three legs depending on availability in each accommodation, on a case-by-case basis. More details will come – let us know about your intentions in the form below.
