20.06.2022 - The Sun Trip
The Sun Trip The Sun Trip

First big stage of the project, the route between Annecy and Andermatt offers the first border crossing towards Switzerland.

Part of the group chose to cross Lake Geneva and Evian, while the majority of the group took the Chamonix route before arriving in the Valais.

The report made for France 3, with a zoom on the young people of the Apprentis d’Auteuil who took part in the first stages.

The best climbers took advantage of this to go for points at the top of the Emosson dam road.

Stage 2 will officially end tomorrow afternoon but already a lot of participants have arrived in Andermatt. The weather forecast is bad tomorrow, but everyone should be able to reach the finish in time.

From this first big stage the choices of routes are very different, and we can’t wait to know the results of the solar challenge. Imagine today the young Emile Rivoire – Sun Trip Alpes 2022 has climbed three big passes: Grimsel, Nufenen and Gothard! He is the only one to have attempted this challenge!

Here is a nice video overview of what the first few hundred kilometres in our Swiss neighbours gave us, crossing breathtaking landscapes under the sun.

Arrival in Andermatt

The suntrippers have all reached the first stage outside of France on time. Here are some pictures of the special welcome offered by Andermatt Swiss Alps, with accommodation, meals, meetings and entertainment…

Departure from Andermatt

30km further on, in the direction of Disentis, the group set off again, together, under an unexpected sun. At noon, we were welcomed for a last collective meal offered by the town, before taking the road again towards the next stage 300km further on: Innsbruck.
